Many architectural sights like castles, cloisters and churches, half-timbered buildings and town houses as well as historical marketplaces characterize the picture of romantic cities and idyllic villages around the Deister. You can see five mostly well-redeveloped weser renaissance castles in the municipality Rodenberg, most of them in good condition.

The newly founded open-air museum contains the whole castle area with "state house", embankment and ditch, as well as two artillery towers from the year 1500. The place which was digged and partly restored in the years 2000 to 2004 is unique in Germany.

You can also enjoy the geography and history of Rodenberg. In the villages Lauenau and Rodenberg you can find museums of local history which offer guided tours regularly.
