The exemplarily renovated old town has become a great historic architectural monument of international rank. You can admire densely packed buildings in the architectural style of the weser renaissance, for example the Pied Piper house from the year 1602 with the inscription of the child move-out, the Dempterhaus from 1607 and the Leisthaus from the year 1558 as well as two mediaeval city towers with city wall. The whole centre of the city seems to be like one big open-air museum with its richly decorated, colourful town houses but has, at the same time, remained the living centre of the city.
Hameln has become famouts by the legend of the Pied Piper. Still today visitors can find tracks of the Pied Piper. During the summer months the musical “Rats” is shown every Wednesday at 4.30 p.m. and every Sunday from the middle of May till the middle of September the Pied Piper-open-air play is shown on the terrace of the wedding house.
